Published 11.03.2007

Kilrainey Equestrain Centre, Broadford Co. Kildare was the venue for the third of the four leg winter league hosted by Leinster Dressage. Leinster Dressage Chairman Clare Fitzsimons had a busy day as show secretary last Sunday with over 120 entries to contend with in the 13 classes on offer which included three unregistered Amateur classes and a Para Equestrian Class as well as registered classes ranging from Preliminary to Advanced Medium. The two indoor arenas were in use all day and were welcomed in the afternoon as the rain settled in.

Venus Vitality ridden by Zoe Hutchinson scored an impressive 70% from Judge Margaret Pettigrew to win the registered Preliminary Test 10. Jane Whitaker's traditional coloured cob Ambrose was second with 69.09% followed by Linda Christie's lovely bay Ravencroft Dylan in third (66.36%). Jinny Webb judged the long arena Preliminary Test 17 and her choice for first place with a score of 69.17% was Caraloban Bridge ridden by Liza Landau. Liza also rode the magnificent chestnut gelding in the Para Equestrian Elementary Test 52 for judge Jean Mitchell later in the day. Liza is currently looking for funding to help realise her dream to represent Ireland by qualifying for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. Jinny Webb also judged the Novice long arena test 33 in which was won by Claire Cawley's Sweet Deceit (65.86%). Ringwood Hatti ridden by promising young rider Katie Nolan and Jennifer Egan's Clonlara Susie both had a score of 64.82% with the former taking second place on collective marks. Judging Novice Test 27 and Elementary Test 50 was Steffie von Schilcher and those class winners were Jenny Doran's HorsePlay Jamboree (67.14%) and Leinster Dressage's secretary Jennifer Egan's Clonlara Susie (61.07%). As well as judging the Para Equestrian class Jean Mitchell oversaw Elementary Test 58, Medium Test 75 and Advanced Medium Test 86. Katie Nolan and Ringwood Hatti were in the placings again winning Elementary 58 ahead of Davnets Dreamboy (Monica Dunne) and Well Counselled (Paul Meehan). Only two combinations contested Medium 75 where Saturday Night (Jennifer Lambert) was the winner ahead of Florestina L ridden by Dermot Cannon who had given a very informative talk from the viewing gallery earlier in the day observing tests from a judges perspective. The final class of the day was the Advanced Medium where this time Jennifer Lambert and Saturday Night (61.81%) were in second place to Amanda Goldsbury and Julius (65.15%).

The Amateur classes are proving to be a big draw and are open to all registered and non-registered riders who have not been placed 1st-4th in registered competition in the last 12 months including eventing, or riders who have been previous winners of an Amateur League and who do not train any riders or horses in any equestrian discipline for monetary gain. June O'Reilly judged the three amateur classes on offer the Pony Preliminary Test 10, Preliminary Test 10 and Novice Test 27 the winners of these three classes were Gruaile Grannie (Jamie Nolan), Bracken Irish Mist (Margo Monaghan) and Jackson's Rock (Lesley Hunter Nolan) respectively. The final leg of the current league is to take place on April 15th, the week before the Dressage Ireland Winter Finals.
